The Mayo Brothers

Just an interesting bit of trivia....

Back at the turn of the century medicine was not as "advanced" as it is today. When a patient was found to be "incurable" and the doctors could do nothing further, the poor sufferer was usually sent home to die, without hope of recovery. However, the Mayo Brothers--the very same brothers who started the now famous Mayo Clinic--used to send some of their "incurable" patients to area Christian Science practitioners. These invalids would leave the hospital with little hope, only to find that healing was just around the corner. Dr. William Mayo of Rochester, Minnesota is quoted as saying, "I have sent people to Christian Scientists [typically meaning a "practitioner" involved in the healing practice] and they have got relief." (Mary Baker Eddy: A Life Size Portrait, Lyman Powell, p. 38, first edition.)

In fact, most of the early converts to Christian Science were often those who were on their deathbeds, or those who were given up by the medical profession, and they were invariably healed.
